TEKS Math Test Generator

Generate printable math tests built on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills — the standards Texas actually uses — with the process standards woven in and a worked answer key on every test.

Why Texas is different

The TEKS are not the Common Core with different numbering. Texas wrote its own standards, and the differences are structural: content is organised into strands that shift by grade, the process standards run alongside every strand rather than sitting in a separate list, and personal financial literacy appears from elementary school onward. A worksheet pack written to Common Core will leave gaps in a Texas scope and sequence, and will include some material Texas teaches in a different year.

What this course covers in Texas

Process standards run through everything

In the TEKS, the process standards are listed first in every grade and are meant to be assessed alongside content rather than separately. Practically, that means more items that ask students to justify, model a situation, or choose a representation, not only compute.

Number and operations

Place value and fraction reasoning in the elementary grades, moving into operations with rational numbers by grades 6 and 7. Texas sequences fraction division and negative number operations at slightly different points than Common Core does.

Proportionality

A named strand in the Texas middle grades covering ratios, rates, percent change, scale and similarity. It carries heavy weight in grades 6 and 7 and is where most multi-step word problems come from.

Expressions, equations and relationships

Writing and solving equations and inequalities, plus the geometry and measurement expectations that Texas files under this heading in several grades. Linear relationships here feed directly into Algebra 1.

Personal financial literacy

The clearest TEKS-only strand. Depending on grade it covers saving and spending, simple and compound interest, income and taxes, credit and debt, and paying for post-secondary education. Most national generators do not produce these items at all.

Example questions

Easy1. A recipe calls for 3 cups of flour to make 24 muffins. How many cups are needed for 40 muffins?
Med2. A rectangular prism measures 7 cm by 4 cm by 3 cm. Find its total surface area.
Med3. Ellis earns $2,400 per month and budgets 28% for rent. How much is budgeted for rent?
Hard4. The scale on a map is 1 inch to 45 miles. Two towns are 3.5 inches apart on the map. How far apart are they in reality?

Answer key preview

1. 5 cups

24 muffins per 3 cups is 8 muffins per cup, and 40 / 8 = 5.

2. 122 square cm

2(7x4) + 2(7x3) + 2(4x3) = 56 + 42 + 24 = 122.

3. $672

2400 x 0.28 = 672.

4. 157.5 miles

3.5 x 45 = 157.5.

Questions Texas teachers ask

Are the TEKS just Texas's version of the Common Core?
No. Texas never adopted the Common Core and developed the TEKS independently. There is real overlap in topics, as there would be between any two sets of math standards, but the sequencing, the strand structure and the financial literacy expectations are genuinely different.
Can I generate a test for one TEKS strand only?
Yes. Choose the strand and grade and the generator builds a test focused there, which is what most teachers want for a unit test rather than a cumulative review.
Does this cover the process standards?
The generated items include modelling, justification and representation prompts rather than computation alone, which is how the process standards are meant to be assessed. You can weight toward more procedural items if you are testing fluency.
Which grades are supported?
Grades 3 through 8 and Algebra 1 have dedicated TEKS coverage. Earlier grades are supported through the general grade-level generators.

Classroom assessment context

Build the assessment, not just the questions

MathQuizily helps teachers move from a topic or standard to a printable math test with answer keys, balanced difficulty, and classroom-ready PDF output.

A useful assessment should make the learning target clear, cover the intended skills, and give the teacher enough information to review the result before students see it. The workflow supports short quizzes, chapter checks, diagnostic tests, homework packets, make-up assessments, and equivalent retake versions.

Choose a grade, topic, curriculum context, and difficulty level. The generated PDF includes a student version and a separate worked answer key, so teachers can print, review, and grade without reformatting questions or building solutions from scratch. No student account is required to create or print a test.
