STAAR Math Practice by Grade
Practice built around the STAAR reporting categories rather than textbook chapters, so what students see during the year lines up with how the state test is actually organised.
Why Texas is different
STAAR is not scored by chapter. It is reported in categories, and a student can be strong in the topics you taught most recently while still scoring low overall because one category was under-practised. Building practice along the reporting categories makes those gaps visible in October instead of in May. STAAR also uses non-multiple-choice item types and leans on multi-step, context-heavy problems, so students who only meet clean textbook exercises tend to be surprised by the wording.

What this course covers in Texas
Numerical representations and relationships
Place value, fractions and decimals, rational number reasoning and comparing quantities. In the lower tested grades this is the largest single category, and weakness here quietly damages every other one.
Computations and algebraic relationships
Operations, expressions, equations, inequalities and proportional reasoning. Usually the heaviest-weighted category across grades 4 through 8, and the strongest predictor of Algebra 1 readiness.
Geometry and measurement
Area, perimeter, volume, surface area, angle relationships, coordinate geometry and the Pythagorean theorem in the upper grades. Frequently the category where formula recall rather than reasoning is the actual problem.
Data analysis and personal financial literacy
Graph interpretation, measures of centre, simple probability and the financial literacy expectations. Often the smallest category by item count, which tempts teachers to skip it — and it is the cheapest place to pick up points.

Outer dimensions are 14 + 4 = 18 and 9 + 4 = 13, so 18 x 13 = 234.

Total marbles = 6 + 9 + 5 = 20, so the probability is 9/20.
4. c = 35 + 0.12g, giving $36.80
35 + 0.12(15) = 35 + 1.80 = 36.80.
