Why North Carolina is different
North Carolina does not use the Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 sequence that most national materials assume. High school mathematics is organised as NC Math 1, 2 and 3, and each course integrates algebra, functions, geometry and statistics together. This is the single biggest reason an Algebra 1 workbook is a poor fit for an NC Math 1 classroom: it will be missing the geometry and statistics content entirely, and it will sequence the algebra differently because it is not sharing the year with anything else.

What this course covers in North Carolina
Algebra and equations
Linear and simple quadratic equations, inequalities, systems, and rearranging literal equations. This is the portion that overlaps most closely with a traditional Algebra 1 course.
Functions, including sequences
Function notation, domain and range, comparing linear and exponential growth, and arithmetic and geometric sequences treated explicitly as functions. The sequence work is often lighter in national Algebra 1 material.
Geometry inside the course
Coordinate geometry, distance and midpoint, slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines, and geometric modelling. Students meet this in Math 1 rather than waiting a year for a separate geometry course.
Statistics inside the course
Interpreting data displays, describing distributions, scatterplots, lines of best fit and correlation. Integrated through the year rather than taught as a final unit.
Modelling as a connecting thread
Because the strands share a year, items frequently combine them — a scenario that requires a linear model, a coordinate interpretation and a statement about fit. Testing strands in isolation understates how the EOC will present them.

The common difference is 4, and a(1) = 5, so a(n) = 5 + 4(n - 1) = 4n + 1.
2. x < -5
-3x > 15, and dividing by a negative reverses the inequality, giving x < -5.

(25 - 4) / (5 - 2) = 21 / 3 = 7.
4. a(n) = 3 x 2^(n-1), and the sixth term is 96
The ratio is 2, so a(6) = 3 x 2^5 = 3 x 32 = 96.
