B.E.S.T. Standards Math Test Generator
Generate printable math tests aligned to Florida's Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, with the Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards built into the items rather than bolted on.
Why Florida is different
Florida replaced its Common Core-based standards with the B.E.S.T. Standards, and the replacement was not cosmetic. The B.E.S.T. benchmarks are written with clarifications that specify how far a benchmark goes at each grade, which prevents the scope creep teachers used to see in national materials. Florida also uses its own Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards in place of the national practice standards, and the wording differences matter when you are writing items that ask students to explain or justify.

What this course covers in Florida
Number sense and operations
Place value, fractions and decimals, and operations with rational numbers. Florida's benchmark clarifications are unusually specific about number ranges at each grade, so tests can be pitched accurately rather than guessing at difficulty.
Algebraic reasoning
Patterns, expressions, equations and inequalities, building toward linear relationships in the middle grades. This is the strand that carries the most weight into the Algebra 1 EOC.
Measurement and geometric reasoning
Perimeter, area, volume, angle relationships and coordinate geometry. Florida separates measurement from geometric reasoning at several grades, which is worth mirroring when you build unit tests.
Data analysis and probability
Representing and interpreting data, measures of centre and variation, and probability in the upper middle grades. Typically the lightest strand by item count but a reliable source of accessible points.
The MTRs
Florida's reasoning standards ask students to actively participate, demonstrate understanding across representations, complete tasks with fluency, engage in discussions, and assess the reasonableness of solutions. Items that only ask for a computed answer do not exercise them.
Example questions
Answer key preview
1. 192 oranges
6 x 8 = 48 per crate, and 48 x 4 = 192.
2. 14x - 15
Distribute to get 10x - 15, then add 4x to get 14x - 15.
3. 72 square inches
Average the bases: (10 + 14) / 2 = 12, then 12 x 6 = 72.
4. 90 litres
5/8 of 240 is 150, so 240 - 150 = 90.
