Ohio State Test Math Practice

Why Ohio is different
Ohio writes its own Learning Standards and its own assessments, and the state test is delivered in two parts rather than as a single sitting. That structure matters for preparation, because stamina and pacing across two testing sessions is a real factor for younger students. Ohio also builds modelling and reasoning expectations into its standards explicitly, so items that only require a computed answer under-represent what the test asks students to do.

What this course covers in Ohio
Number and operations
Place value, fractions, decimals and rational number operations across the elementary and middle grades. Fraction division and signed number arithmetic are the usual failure points heading into grade 7.
Expressions, equations and functions
Writing and solving equations and inequalities, proportional reasoning, and linear functions by grade 8. The strongest single indicator of readiness for the Algebra 1 end-of-course exam.
Geometry and measurement
Area, volume, surface area, angle relationships, transformations and the Pythagorean theorem. Ohio expects students to explain why a relationship holds, not only apply a formula.
Statistics and probability
Data displays, measures of centre and variability, sampling and probability in the upper middle grades. Typically the lightest strand by item count and the most commonly rushed.

Area = 1/2 x 12 x 9 = 54.
3. 7/20
0.35 = 35/100, and dividing both by 5 gives 7/20.
4. 420 miles
The rate is 180 / 3 = 60 miles per hour, and 60 x 7 = 420.
