Function
/FUNK-shun/
Definition
A function is a rule that assigns exactly one output to each input. Every input (x-value) maps to exactly one output (y-value). Written as f(x), this notation shows the function name and input.
๐กExample
f(x) = 2x + 1 is a function. If x = 3, then f(3) = 2(3) + 1 = 7. The input 3 gives exactly one output 7. A relation where x = 2 gives both y = 3 and y = 5 is NOT a function.
